We will be focusing on developing inquiry skills, creating curiosity about the natural world, and establishing a basis of scientific literacy. The major strands of Physical Science, Life Science and Earth Science will be taught as you progress throughout the year. You will be participating in a Science Fair competition during the second quarter of the school year. We take advantage of our natural environment and community assets to expand learning beyond the classroom. Partnering with community groups for service projects allows us to contribute our energy to protecting our local environment. My goal is to prepare you for your future studies while encouraging a sense of wonder and appreciation of God’s creation.
Grading Policy
Class work: Come to class prepared with composition book, textbook, and writing utensils that are erasable. Demonstrate proper classroom behavior, ask and answer questions, and work well with others. Tasks given must be finished in class and if incomplete you have the option to come in during your free time to finish.
Homework: Weekly assignments are worth 10 points if completed to the best of one’s ability by the due date during the class period, half credit if turned in 1 school day late, but any later will receive 0 points. Homework will be discussed in class and posted on the homeroom’s homework board.
Projects: An assignment given in advance that has specific criteria and requires more than one week to complete. For each day the work is late, the grade will be reduced by 10% up to a total of 5 days or 50% but if still incomplete will receive 0 points.
Quizzes/Tests: Quizzes will be given randomly and handwritten notes can be used. Notice of tests will be given in advance and a study guide will be handed out. There will be no notes allowed on tests. Corrections are always welcomed- to be done in red pen with the correct answer and page number in the textbook where found if applicable.
If absent- all work must be turned in the following week when you return for credit.
